64 Would You Rather Questions for Couples

Would you rather spend a weekend in a tiny cabin or a busy city? It sounds like a simple choice, but the answer can tell you something unexpected about the person beside you. That is the charm of a would-you-rather game for couples: two options, one quick decision, and often a story you have not heard before.

Unlike an open-ended interview, every question gives you somewhere to start. You do not need to prepare a thoughtful speech. Pick A or B, explain what tipped the balance, and let your partner choose. You might agree instantly, disagree for funny reasons, or discover that you pictured the same option in completely different ways.

Below are 64 questions in eight moods. Start with whatever suits your evening. There is no score, no correct answer, and no requirement to finish the list. If a question feels uncomfortable, skip it without making a big deal of it.

01
Silly choices to break the ice

Start here if one of you is tired or neither knows what to talk about.

  • Would you rather speak only in song lyrics for a day or communicate entirely through drawings?
  • Would you rather have matching ridiculous hats or matching ridiculous shoes for a whole weekend?
  • Would you rather be followed everywhere by dramatic movie music or a laugh track?
  • Would you rather have to dance before every meal or sing before opening every door?
  • Would you rather swap laughs for a week or swap your most-used phrases?
  • Would you rather host a dinner for cartoon villains or be guests at a superhero picnic?
  • Would you rather win a trophy for terrible jokes or for spectacularly bad dancing?
  • Would you rather spend a date pretending to be tourists or pretending to be secret agents?
02
Food, home, and everyday habits

Ordinary preferences are surprisingly personal.

  • Would you rather cook dinner together every night or take turns surprising each other with dinner?
  • Would you rather live with a tiny kitchen and huge balcony or huge kitchen and tiny balcony?
  • Would you rather always choose the music at home or always choose the evening film?
  • Would you rather do all the grocery shopping together or never shop together again?
  • Would you rather have breakfast at midnight or dinner first thing in the morning?
  • Would you rather keep the home perfectly tidy or make it endlessly cozy but messy?
  • Would you rather try a new recipe every week or perfect one signature meal together?
  • Would you rather wake up early together on Sundays or stay up late together on Fridays?
03
Dates and time together

This round is about what you enjoy doing together, not about proving who is more romantic.

  • Would you rather plan a surprise date for your partner or receive one with no clues?
  • Would you rather go on a long walk with coffee or spend the evening talking on the sofa?
  • Would you rather recreate your first date or invent a completely new tradition?
  • Would you rather dress up for a fancy restaurant or have a candlelit dinner at home?
  • Would you rather spend a date learning a new skill or revisiting a shared favorite place?
  • Would you rather have two uninterrupted hours together today or a whole free afternoon next month?
  • Would you rather choose an activity from a jar or let your partner choose without discussion?
  • Would you rather end a date with a photo together or a handwritten note to remember it?
04
Trips and little adventures

Use this block when you want to daydream or plan something small.

  • Would you rather take an unplanned train trip or drive somewhere chosen with your eyes closed on a map?
  • Would you rather spend a weekend beside a lake or in a small mountain village?
  • Would you rather explore one unfamiliar neighborhood slowly or visit five famous sights quickly?
  • Would you rather travel with one backpack each or pack everything for maximum comfort?
  • Would you rather watch sunrise from a hill or sunset from a quiet beach?
  • Would you rather visit a city for its street food or its museums and galleries?
  • Would you rather get lost together for an hour or follow a perfectly detailed itinerary?
  • Would you rather return to a beloved place or discover somewhere neither of you has been?
05
Memories and your shared story

You have already collected a story together, even if you have only been dating a short while.

  • Would you rather relive the day you met or the first time you laughed uncontrollably together?
  • Would you rather look through old photos or listen to songs from your first months together?
  • Would you rather hear your partner’s first impression of you or tell yours first?
  • Would you rather revisit a tiny everyday moment or one big celebration from your past?
  • Would you rather keep a box of shared souvenirs or a journal of your favorite conversations?
  • Would you rather recreate an old photo together or record a message for your future selves?
  • Would you rather remember every place you visited or every meal you shared together?
  • Would you rather tell the story of your first date to friends or keep it just between you?
06
Future plans and possibilities

A choice about the future is not a promise or a hidden test.

  • Would you rather learn a language together or learn to play a musical instrument together?
  • Would you rather save for one big trip or plan several smaller escapes during the year?
  • Would you rather live close to friends or close to nature if both felt equally practical?
  • Would you rather build a new annual tradition or change one tradition every year?
  • Would you rather have a shared creative project or a shared fitness goal for a season?
  • Would you rather know your next holiday destination now or decide at the last minute?
  • Would you rather spend a free month traveling or settling into a new home together?
  • Would you rather make a five-year wish list or a list of tiny things to try this month?
07
Awkward but revealing choices

A little awkwardness can make this game memorable.

  • Would you rather have your partner read your old teenage diary or see your oldest embarrassing photos?
  • Would you rather forget someone’s name at a party or confidently call them the wrong name?
  • Would you rather accidentally send a silly voice note to family or a silly selfie to colleagues?
  • Would you rather be caught practicing a speech in the mirror or rehearsing a dance alone?
  • Would you rather have your partner choose your outfit for a week or your playlist for a month?
  • Would you rather admit you were wrong immediately or tell an embarrassing story first?
  • Would you rather be the first to sing karaoke or the last person left on the dance floor?
  • Would you rather share an unpopular opinion about food or an embarrassing childhood nickname?
08
Deeper questions about closeness

Save this round for a moment when you both feel ready to slow down.

  • Would you rather receive reassurance through words or through a thoughtful small action?
  • Would you rather talk through a difficult day immediately or take quiet time before talking?
  • Would you rather be surprised with help on a busy day or be asked exactly what you need?
  • Would you rather share a big dream before it feels realistic or wait until you have a plan?
  • Would you rather have a weekly hour for deep conversation or ten minutes of undistracted talk daily?
  • Would you rather hear what your partner appreciates about you or what they hope to experience together?
  • Would you rather resolve a small disagreement before bed or return to it after a good night’s sleep?
  • Would you rather plan more time together or protect more individual time so togetherness feels easier?

How to play without turning it into an interview

Take turns reading one question aloud. Both people choose A or B before either explains the answer; that keeps one response from shaping the other. Then ask a single follow-up: “Why that one?” If you disagree, compare the pictures in your heads instead of trying to win. A beach trip might mean peaceful mornings to one person and crowded resorts to another.

Try eight questions over tea, or choose one from each section for a short date-night game. You can also write your answers separately and reveal them together. If you want more open-ended prompts afterward, explore our questions to ask your partner. For a different kind of evening, our games for couples at home offer more ways to play together.

Keep the conversation going after the last choice

The best part is often the explanation, not the choice itself. Notice which answers surprise you, which spark a memory, and which suggest something you could actually do next weekend. You might learn that your partner would rather have a slow breakfast than a big night out. That is useful information, but it is not an instruction or an obligation.

If choosing prompts on the spot feels like work, InCouple offers Cards for conversations and Quests for shared activities. Use them as a starting point, then follow whatever feels natural. You do not have to complete a challenge, agree on every answer, or turn the evening into a serious discussion. One interesting question can be plenty.
